Reflection: Rigor Greater or Less? - Section 1: Mini-Lesson


One of the Common Core Standards I used to align this lesson was:

K.CC.C7 Compare two numbers between 1 and 10 presented as written numerals.

You will notice this assignment goes beyond the numeral 10. My experience tells me that it is the teen numbers and beyond that always tend to be more difficult for students. I felt staying within the parameters of 10, would be far too easy and not require enough thinking for all of my students, even those that struggle. Students did not disappoint, and did exceptionally well with larger numerals!

Unit 12: Comparing Numbers
Lesson 1 of 5

Objective: Students will determine within number sets which digit is "greater" or "less".

Big Idea: Students apply their number sense in this task, and help Eddie decide which numbers are "more" or "less".
