Reflection: Real World Applications What is longer/shorter than my shoe? - Section 2: Whole Group Interaction

Check out the picture in the resource section. This is a perfect example of what I want my students to NOT do. I want them to know that correct measuring will always require lining up at the beginning edge of the item being measured. The orange bucket in the picture was picked up by more than one student and when the realized their pencil could fit right through the handles, they slid it in and had it hanging right in the middle of the pencil to measure it. I corrected them and showed them to start at the edge and hold their pencil above it to correctly measure.
