## Reflection: Checks for Understanding Simple Interest - Section 1: Introduction

While going over the check for understanding a student commented "Mr. Harris.  These problems are just like other percent problems!" I asked the student to explain what she meant.  She said that finding 2% simple interest on \$200 is just like finding 2% of \$200 except that you multiply the answer by the number of years.  I asked her to repeat this to the class.  Of course to we teachers this statement is obvious, but it was an important revelation for this young learner.  It's a small victory but I'll take it!
