I call students to gather their computers and notes and to sit with their partners. I check in to see if everyone has completed evaluating their websites. Students who are not quite done will need to complete that before completing today’s assignment. Today, we are going to look at how to put your research together.
We are going to talk about the sections you might think about including in your research report. There are several different ways to do this, and I am willing to discuss alternative processes, but today we are going to talk about one particular format for a research report.

A strong report always has an introduction. This is where you want to ensure your reader knows what you are talking about in your report. Remember, this is not a creative writing assignment, so stick with the facts. The final sentence of your introduction should be your thesis, or the point you are trying to make in your paper. A great way to get your reader interested is to find a great quote from an authority on your topic. Look for these as you read through your research.
The body of your paper should include three pieces of evidence to support your thesis. These should be evidence-based and have references to the websites you used for your information. The body of your paper should include at least three paragraphs, one for each piece of evidence.
The final part of your paper should summarize your findings, and wrap up your paper by restating your thesis.
I give students a few minutes to look at their websites and notes and begin to think about where each piece of information might go. This is where students can rearrange their stickie notes into the sections that the research paper will be in.
