Objective

SWBAT use technology to share their writing with others.

Big Idea

In this lesson, students will add finishing touches to their Google Drive presentations and then present their final work to the class.

Enroll Students Into Learning

5 minutes

Today, my students start out at their seats and we discuss how we started our Google Drive Presentations four days ago on our favorite Greek myths.  In the last four days, the students have done a lot of work.  I tell them how proud of their work I am and can’t wait to see their final work today!  I ask the students if they have any questions about their work from yesterday.  So far there are no questions, so it’s time to get ready to add some finishing touches today!

Experience Learning

5 minutes

Today we will continue our work in the computer lab for a short time, and this is the opportunity for students to add their finishing touches to their presentations.  After all finishing touches are added, we’ll have time to share our presentations.

I have a student walk me through how to get into Google Drive once again today.  Once here though, I remind the students of all the features they’re able to use today: finishing any text, changing the background or theme if they have not already, changing the text font, size, and color if they have not already, inserting images into our presentation today, and editing and revising based on the “Comments” feature.

I tell the students that if they are finished with adding all the touches they’d like, then they can preview their presentation by visiting the “View” menu and then clicking “Present”.

Now that we have walked through the process of getting into and working with all the features we can use to add our finishing touches, I tell the students that it’s time to get working!  In our school, we have access to a device for all of our students by visiting our school computer lab.  At this point, I remind students to make sure they have their graphic organizer templates and then we line up to head to the computer lab.

Demonstrate Skills

10 minutes

Once in the computer lab, students get logged in and get started on their work.   After logging in, the students are really in charge of their work.  They work slide by slide and add their last finishing touches.  Once students, I remind them they can preview their presentation as we let others finish up.

Once students are finished, we begin sharing presentations.    We use the large screen in our computer lab to project each student’s presentation.  Each student comes up and guides us through their slides to share their work with us about their favorite myth!

Review

5 minutes

After showing the presentations today, I tell the students that I am SO proud of all of their hard work!  These presentations are great, and they were able to use technology to share and collaborate with others!  Awesome work!
