Narrative

Introduction

4 minutes

This lesson brings our unit on college and career readiness full circle as students complete a culminating writing assessment on what they want to be when they grow up. I explain to my students that this lesson is important because it allows them to set career goals based on their career aspirations.  They can use the information which they learned in this unit on Careers to build a career path plan for their bright futures.

Writing Activity

55 minutes

Students use this time to write essays about their college and career aspirations using the information they learned from completing a College and Career Exploration Worksheet (Click here to access lesson) and playing Career Jeopardy (Click here to access lesson).  I explain to them that a primary concept that I want them to understand from our unit on Careers is that the level and the quality of the level of education that they obtain is in part up to them.  They must always focus on doing their best in order for them to maximize the doors of opportunity to be opened to them.  (See the attached student writing sample on career aspirations.)
