TCAP Social Studies Vocabulary Review

Objective: SWBAT review social studies vocabulary for the TCAP test by playing a Jeopardy-inspired game.
Social studies is important to my scholars because it teaches them about themselves, their community, their nation, and the world. It involves history, geography, historical figures, civics, and government. It is a crucial part of education that teaches my students how to be well-informed, critically-thinking, global citizens. I explain to them that today we will play a Jeopardy-inspired game to review the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment of Progress (TCAP) social studies vocabulary.
I divide my students into two teams are we get started playing the Jeopardy-inspired game. During the game, my scholars refresh their memories on topics such as government and civics, economics, geography, people, and history. Building my students' social studies knowledge base is important because I want them to learn to be engaged, global citizens. We close the lesson with a reflective quick write. This lesson is important because social studies as a content area sometimes is not a primary focus in elementary schools curriculum. The primary focus being ELA and math. What I like about CCSS is that it allows social studies content to be infused in literacy. No longer do my students read primarily fictional passages. At the 4th grade level, there is a balance of fiction and non-fiction, informational text. This lesson builds on those non-fiction, informational text passages that my students have been reading throughout the school year.
