# Unit 4 Quiz 1: One-Step Equations

## Objective: SWBAT demonstrate that they have retained the information that they have been taught during this unit.

The purpose for today’s quiz is essentially to target which standards I need to review the most during tomorrows review lesson. I will use this quiz to help me understand what types of stations I need to set up to allow students to practice those standards where they need the most help.

Today my students will be taking a quiz. This quiz will consist of 10 questions 8of which will be multiple choice while the other two will be constructed response. This quiz will cover all of the standards for Unit 5. And, I have purposely chosen and or created questions to create a quiz that has a good mix of DOK levels. I start the quiz out with lower level questions. The first two questions are always level 1 questions, then I move on to level 2 and 3 questions and I place a level 1 question as one of the last two questions. If the calculations tend to be a bit tedious, I will place a level 1 question in the middle of the quiz to provide the students with some reprieve as they are working.

The students will be given 30 minutes to complete their quiz. I provide this amount of time because of three reasons.

- CRCT (our state standardized test) allows our students with 2 minutes per question. So I want to ensure that I give my students at least that amount of time.
- I provide my students with 10 extra minutes to provide those students who tend to work more slowly extra time to complete their quiz so that I can get a complete picture of their abilities.

Also, the 10 extra minutes allows me to see which students are working within the 2 minute per question time frame, which students are close to the 2 minute per question time frame and therefore may simply need some intervention as far as strategies to speed up, and which students are nowhere near the 2 minute per question time frame and therefore need intensive intervention, whether it be re-teaching or strategies or both.

#### Assessment Results

After my students complete their quiz in the 30 minutes provided, they will then exchange papers so that the quizzes can be graded and returned to the student right away. This allows for me and the students to have immediate feedback as to how they performed on their quiz. I will record their results on a matrix that has their names and the numbers of each question. I will walk around and ask each student which questions did you miss while recording the results and rechecking their quiz to make sure that it was graded properly.

***Note: It is easy to remember multiple choice question answers if you make the answers spell words like CAB, DAD, DAB, BAD or acronyms like CDC. This way when rechecking the papers it only takes a few seconds.

During the time that it takes me to recheck the papers, the students should be reworking any problem that they missed on a separate sheet of paper.
