Several times throughout the year, my students take interim assessments. These assessments cover material from each unit to date. This is the first day of a two day midcourse assessment, which covers geometric constructions, geometric transformations, and rigid motions [Note: this links will bring you to the first lesson in each of the units].
The assessment contains 20 questions, 15 multiple choice questions worth 2 points each, 4 short answer questions worth 3 points each, and 1 question worth 8 points for a total of 50 points. It should take the students approximately 45 minutes. Students need a compass and straight edge for the constructions.
Interim assessments help teachers gather information about what their students know and can be used to inform teaching. If I notice many students difficulty with a specific topic even after the assessment, I build in extra practice into future lessons.
