As students enter the room, they will have a seat, take out their Problem of the Day (POD) sheet and begin to work on the question on the SMARTboard. The POD allows students to use MP 3 continually based on the discussions we have about the problem each day.
Our POD today will center on preparing the students to complete the post assessment for the unit. We have discussed several concepts in our work on this unit. I want to discuss the idea of changing one dimension in a figure and the affect on the surface area and volume of that figure.
What happens to the volume of a figure if its height is tripled? Provide an example to support your work.
Students will complete the post assessment on surface area and volume today. The assessment is similar to the pre assessment in that the same concepts are covered however some of the computation will be different. If students are comfortable and do well on the post assessment it will show that they understand the concepts and the application of the formulas that they have derived and learned as we worked on the unit.
Students will have the class period to complete the assessment. Students who finish early may meet with me to review the assessment if there is time to grade the assessment. Intervention may be necessary for some students and we can plan the intervention period after each conversation. It is helpful to meet with the students while the assessment is fresh in their minds. I can ask questions about decisions they have made during problem solving and support them as they work through any mistakes they have made.
