Objective

SWBAT respond correctly to multiple choice and short answer questions based on their reading yesterday.

Big Idea

Will the "map" lead to success?

Warm Up

15 minutes

Today is Free Read Friday.  (The link here takes will take you to an earlier lesson with my reflection explaining Free Read Friday.) Students will read their personal library books for the first 15 minutes of class.

Independent Work/Assessment

35 minutes

Students will use their text maps (completed in class yesterday and displayed in the middle of the group table) along with their own copy of the magazine to complete this task. I will ask them to reread.  Then, they will answer 8 multiple choice and 2 short answer questions that ask them to make connections between the text, use details from the material, make inferences and countless other common core aligned tasks.

Note -The multiple choice questions are from scholastic's materials, but I use the short answer questions included here that are my own.

Wrap Up

5 minutes

Several of my students will work on the short answer questions right up until time for class to end, so to wrap up class today, I will simply ask students to put their assessment in the caddy.  I will collect them after students leave.

For those students who finish with time to spare, I will have already given the instruction to read their library book quietly when they finish.  This is a routine practice in my class that students already practice regularly.
