SWBAT use technology to share their newscast-style summary of a major event from the text.

Big Idea

Fair and balanced reporting.

Warm Up

15 minutes

Students will complete their newscast script or recording so they are ready to share.  I have arranged for space in the library so groups can record.

15 minutes

Students will share their newscasts today.  These may be video or audio as decided in our last class.

As we share each groups newscast, we'll discuss whether it was a successful narrative or what happened.  Was it objective as a good summary (or newscast in this case) should be?

Independent Work

20 minutes

Students will listen to the audio -picking up where we left in the last class - and follow in their books. As they do they will be very involved in the text, actively reading per the instructions on the Reading Circle sheets.

I will allow the class to read until the last five minutes of class time and record their stopping point.

Wrap Up

5 minutes

Wrap up time is spent allowing students to "debrief" independently - collecting their post its and/or completing their thoughts on their Reading Circle sheets. We always discuss questions or concerns before class is dismissed.
