SWBAT correctly identify examples of figurative language taken from the class text.

Big Idea

"Time heals all wounds", and... (hopefully) misconceptions.

Warm Up

15 minutes

Today is Free Read Friday.  Students will read their personal library books for the first 15 minutes of class.

25 minutes

Today, will be a practice in self assessment and teaching...again.

If you follow my lessons, you know that I believe one of the best ways to learn is to teach others, so with me as a "co-teacher" students will be randomly selected to teach at the SMART board. Their lesson is figurative language.  The material is their homework from yesterday's lesson.

As we did the last time, students will use the tools of the smart board, which has the Cinder Fig Lang WS Section Three.docx worksheet displayed, to demonstrate their answers and explain why they are correct. They also have the option to "phone a friend" who may not give them the answer, but may assist them in discovering it from their seat (hence the "phone" distance).

Independent Work

20 minutes

Students will listen to the audio -picking up where we left in the last class - and follow in their books. As they do they will be very involved in the text, actively reading per the instructions on the Reading Circle sheets.

I will allow the class to read until the last five minutes of class time and record their stopping point.

Wrap Up

5 minutes

Wrap up time is spent allowing students to "debrief" independently - collecting their post its and/or completing their thoughts on their Reading Circle sheets. We always discuss questions or concerns before class is dismissed.
