Student will be able to count on from any number, sequence numbers in counting order, and compare quantities using numbers.

Many foundational number concepts are covered in this unit. This lesson gives students a chance to review those concepts before assessment.

For this portion of the lesson, I use my SMARTBoard. If you have a SMARTBoard, the Working with Numbers 0-10 Review can easily be downloaded and opened. If you have a different type of interactive whiteboard, you can still use this lesson by opening the file in Smart Notebook Express. Click here to download. There are also slides so you can recreate this part of the lesson.

I gather my students in front of the SMARTBoard. I have cards with each student's name on. These cards are used for selecting who will come up to the SMARTBoard. I try build a sense of excitement with the students about what we have learned during this unit. It has been a lot!!

The following is a summary of the slides and the conversations with my students.

**Slide One:** We have learned a lot about numbers 0-10! Now it's time to show what we know!!

**Slide Two:** *We can put the numbers in order. * (Invite students to move tiles to put numbers in order from 0-10.

**Slide Three:** *We can tell which group has more *(Invite a student to circle the group that has more).

**Slide Four:** *We can tell which group has more *(Invite a student to circle the group that has more).

**Slide Five: ** *We can tell which group has less* (Invite a student to circle the group that has less).

**Slide Six: ** *We can tell which group has less. * (Invite a student to circle the group that has less).

**Slide Seven: ** We can tell what number comes next (Invite students to come up and write in what number comes next).

**Slide Eight:** *We can count from any number. *(Invite student to come up and write what numbers come next).

**Slide Nine: ** *We can count from any number.* (Invite student to come up and write what numbers come next).

**Slide Ten:** *When given two numbers, we can tell which number is more or the greater number *(Invite students to come up and circle the greater number).

**Slide Eleven: ** *When given two numbers, we can tell which number is less. *(Invite students to come up and circle the number that is less).

**Slide Twelve:** *We can organize a group of objects in a ten frame and count them. *(Invite a student to come up to the SMARTBoard and organize the spiders in the ten frame. Make sure they start in the top left. Invite another student to cont how many spiders there are and write it in the space provided.)

**Slide Thirteen: ** Wow!!! You are really smart! I would agree! Let's use all that we have learned to do some fun station work together.

Ask students to move back to seats for directions for stations.

This lesson uses stations to review the unit's concepts. These can be used as part of this lesson or in your math center. The following is a summary of each station included in this lesson.

I divide the class into four groups and have each group work on a station for a period of time. By dividing the students into four groups, I do not need to prepare as many materials for each station.

Candy Corn Comparing Numbers: You will need to print one grouping card for each student (the one with the two bags). You will also need a recording sheet for each student and a 10-sided die.

You will need twenty pieces of Candy Corn for each student working in the station. I use Candy Corn erasers rather than candy. If you use real Candy Corn, decide how to distribute, and whether students will be allowed to eat it. You will need to instruct the students not to eat the candy corn until the lesson is over (Good luck!).

Students roll the die and count out that number of pieces of Candy Corn. They write that number in the first bag on their sheet. They roll the die again and count out that number of Candy Corn pieces and place it on the second bag. That number is recorded on the sheet. The students then circle the number that is more. They clear the board and continue the process completing the sheet. The recording sheet allows for a quick informal assessment of understanding. As you can see from this video, the students enjoyed working with the candy corn.

Creepy Crawly Count from Any Number: For this station, you will need to print the station cards and post them in different areas of the classroom. You will also need a recording sheet for each student. Students search the classroom for the cards. When they find one, they right the number that is on the container on the card in the appropriate spot on their recording sheets. They then count the total number of items on the card, writing the numbers on the recording sheet. They continue around the room until all of the cards have been found.

What Comes Next Spiders: You will need one set of spider cards for each student working in the station. Cut the cards out and put them in a decorative bag or a brown lunch bag. You will also need a recording sheet for each student.

Students draw a card out of the bag. They write the number in the space with the spider on the recording sheet. They then write the numbers that come next in the spaces provided. The sheet provides an quick assessment of skill mastery.

Candy Corn Number Order: You will need one set of candy corn cards for each student working with the station and a recording sheet. Students put the candy corn number in order from 0-10. They record the numbers on the recording sheet and then complete the rest of the sheet. Again, this is a great tool for checking students' understanding of the concept.

This is a self-closing lesson. I rotate 5-6 students to a group. I provided some number writing practice sheets for students to work on if they complete their station before we are ready to rotate.
