**Opener: **As students enter the room, they will immediately pick up and begin working on the opener – Instructional Strategy - Process for openers. This method of working and going over the opener lends itself to allow students to construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others, which is **mathematical practice 3**.

**Learning Target: **After completion of the opener, I will address the day’s learning targets to the students. For today’s lesson, the intended target is, “I can recognize the type of percent problem I am trying to solve and apply the correct procedures to solve it.” Students will jot the learning target down in their agendas (our version of a student planner, there is a place to write the learning target for every day).

**Percent Test**: In my regular blocks, I will utilize the **Mastery Connect** program to scan and organize the data from the tests. This program gives immediate feedback, which is important to kids! For my advanced block, I have differentiated by giving them an Advanced Test that is open response. The questions have multiple parts and require students analyze their work and how percent applies to the real world. On the test itself, students will be demonstrating mathematical **practices 1, 4 and 6**, as they work diligently (not giving up) and carefully check their work for errors. The problems require students to demonstrate their knowledge in different ways, and on different levels of understanding.
