Students were given five questions to answer from the story The Ballad of Mulan. All answers could be found in the text. They were open ended, meaning students wrote in their answers. Students were also allowed to use their text during the assessment.
Students were given a transparency, whiteboard marker, and an eraser. They placed the transparency over the page in the book where they found the answer and used the whiteboard marker to underline it. If they could not underline the answer they have given, it was a signal that it was incorrect.
