# Polynomial Review Day 1

## Objective: Students will be able to review operations with polynomials as well as factoring and solving polynomial equations.

## Big Idea: Students create a personal study plan as they review operations with and factoring polynomials.

#### Warm up and Homework Review

I include **Warm ups** with a **Rubric** as part of my daily routine. My goal is to allow students to work on **Math Practice 3 **each day. Grouping students into homogeneous pairs provides an opportunity for appropriately differentiated math conversations. The lesson Warm Up- Polynomial Review Day 1 has students solve a polynomial word problem. This fantastic problem came from Engage New York. I really like this problem because it forces the students to use their algebraic skills in context which sets the tone for the rest of the review.

I also use this time to correct and record any past Homework.

#### Review Activity

This Review activity will be started today and completed during the next lesson. I compiled a list of the learning objectives, located in the practice test, covered in this unit which drove the test questions which directly affect this review. This is a variation of my pass the paper activity. Each page has two review problems which a pair of students will solve and then check each other’s work. As a class, we will discuss any problems that prove to be challenging.

The second section also has pairs of problems however this time the students solve their problem algebraically but check their partner’s work graphically (**Math Practice 3**). This forces the students to practice both methods discussed in this unit. As we go through these problems, we will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method to each problem type (**Math Practice 5**).

For an Exit Ticket, I ask the students to list those problems that they would like additional practice with. This information will lead the problems I focus on in the review on the next day.

The Polynomial Practice Test is a Review style I use for all of my units which includes student self-reflection. Many of my students do not have access to graphing technology at home so I have written the homework problems to review the algebraic content of this test as we have already addressed the graphical content with the in-class review work.
