# Transversals 2

## Objective: SWBAT become fluent in working with transversals and parallel lines.

#### Warm Up

Each day, students complete a Warmup that consists of spiraling the previous day's material, in addition to older material. Warm-up problems also sometimes extend lessons that students have encountered before to more unfamiliar contexts.

In this particular warm-up, I include a bonus angle problem for early finishers, designed to push on students' logic in determining missing angles. I push them to use what they know about vertical angles, interior angles of triangles and quadrilaterals, supplementary angles, to figure out each angle. This type of thinking is critical in high school geometry and provides strong development of their logical reasoning.

#### Huddle

*10 min*

In this huddle, I make a big deal out of the fact that when a transversal crosses parallel lines, there are really only two possibilities for the angle relationships. The angles formed are either equivalent or they are supplementary. I display a diagram for the students. I point to each pair of angles and ask, "Equivalent, or supplementary?" As a followup, I ask for the correct equation describing the relationship between the angles. For this lesson, I place more emphasis on setting up the equation, than solving it.
