Opener: As students enter the room, they will sit down and have 5 minutes to review their notes, discuss with their table, and ask me questions.
Learning Target: After completion of the opener, I will address the day’s learning targets to the students. In today’s lesson, the intended targets are, “I can solve a variety of mathematical and real world problems involving rational numbers.” Students will jot the learning target down in their agendas (our version of a student planner, there is a place to write the learning target for every day).
Rational Numbers Unit Test: The test consists of 20 multiple choice questions, utilizing Mastery Connect. Eventhough today's lesson consists of a test, the mathematical practices still come into play. The questions on the test tie in real world problems (mathematical practice 4) which require that the students reason quantitatively and abstractly (mathematical practice 2). As with all signed numbers, precision and attention to signs is very important (mathematical practice 6).
