Do Now: If you’re in the market for a new cell phone plan and two stores have the phone you want at the same price, how do you decide which company you will use? List at least three things you will consider.
After the discussion of the cell phone plan considerations, I will introduce the vocabulary terms to the class. They will copy the terms into their notes/composition books.
In their table groups, students will complete one of the cards to demonstrate the vocabulary with their group members. Groups can be predetermined (table groups), but because it is an introduction to the material, random grouping may provide insight into what knowledge students have to begin the unit. The Show Cards give students a chance to express their knowledge of the meaning of the vocabulary using their own creativity. The Show Cards require students to understand the information they are presenting-not just regurgitate something they have written down.
Act It Out: with your group, create a skit to demonstrate the meaning of each term.
Connect Four: create a visual connection that illustrates the relationship between the four terms.
Analogies: write an analogy for each term that explains what each term means.
These Three Words: write a 3-word statement that explains what each term means.
After the allotted time has passed, each group will present their creations to the class. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions about each skit if presentations are unclear. I will ask questions to clear any confusion that might come up.
Exit Ticket Prompt: Tell me one thing that we discussed today that you still have questions on. If you don’t have any questions, how would you explain unit rate to someone who wasn’t in class today?
