One and Two Step Equations Test
Lesson 10 of 22
Objective: Students will be able to set up and solve one and two step equations.
Opener As students enter the room, they will immediately pick up and begin working on the opener – Instructional Strategy - Process for openers. This method of working and going over the opener lends itself to allow students to construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others, which is mathematical practice 3.
Learning Target: After completion of the opener, I will address the day’s learning targets to the students. For today's lesson, the intended target is “I can set up and solve one and two-step equations.” Students will jot the learning target down in their agendas (our version of a student planner, there is a place to write the learning target for every day).
One and Two Step Equations Test: Today's test consists of 20 problems, and I will utilitze Mastery Connect to assess the results and give immediate feedback to students. To get problems right, students will need to pay close attention to precision (mathematical practice 6) - are they using the correct inverse operations? Have they determined the correct sign of the term they are working with? Did they attempt to check their answers? Given that this is a test, students will need to persevere with problems until they can reach a solution (mathematical practice 1). A few questions on the test will require students to reason quantitatively given real world applications (mathematical practice 2/4).
