### Unit Description

This unit covers 3 major standards (listed below). The unit begins with a lesson on relevant and irrelevant information in word problem to assist the students with critical thinking. The unit then covers patterns, calculating unit cost, total cost, and a new total cost, input/output tables with both single and multi step equations, calculating total distance when using a scale, proportional relationship problems which include balance scale problems. Standards covered: 4.PRA.3. Use pictures, models, tables, charts, graphs, words, number sentences, and mathematical notations to inter- pret mathematical relationships. 4.PRA.4. Solve problems involving proportional relationships, including unit pricing. 4.PRA.5. Determine how change in one variable relates to a change in a second variable (e.g., input-output tables).
