Unit Description
This is an 18 day unit that will introduce various ways to solve multiplication and division problems. Scholars will be taught how useful mental math can be when solving these types of problems. The main algorithm that will be used to solve multiplication problems is partial products (lattice box multiplication). The standard long divsion algorithm will be taught, but scholars will learn to write out their multiples for each divisor before they start the actual long divion process. The unit will also cover choosing the right operation (multiplication or division) in a word problem. The unit will strive to present scholars with word problems that they can relate to.

Resources: 6 SWBAT multiply 2 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers. SWBAT multiply 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. SWBAT solve single step and multi-step word problems involving multiplication. |

Resources: 10 SWBAT divide 2 digit numbers and 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers (with and without remainders). |
