Lesson: Trying New Things (King Series)
ŸTo encourage students to try new things.
To allow students to realize that there are events and activities most kids their age engage in.
Tell the students that they are in an amusement park. Their chairs are actually on a ride. Have one student pretend to be really scared. Discussion: What could you say to calm them? Why is is it important to have a friend?
Discuss risks and consequences.
Chart age appropriate risks and dangerous risks.
Discuss settings of the various risks. (ie. First Sleepver setting was at a friend)
Have students write a paragraph about a time when they took a risk. What was the outcome? Positive? Negative?
Students will role-play their paragraph that they wrote. Working in pairs, students will role-play both essays. Tell students a bit about the activity the day before so they can bring in props.
