Lesson Objective

Students create a T-Chart classifying different reactions as chemical or physical based on their characteristics

See attached document entitled, "Chemical and Physical Reactions Lesson Plan" for detailed lesson.

 

This is inquiry based lesson indented to cover 2 days (1 hour lesson each) of science sessions.  The lesson is written in ABC, CBV, R format (Activity Before Concept, Concept Before Vocabulary, and Reading).

Investigation Notes

            In conducting this investigation have students wear safety glasses.  It is also important to have extra balloons for students who break theirs placing the balloon on the mouth of the empty water bottle. 

 

Reading Day Notes

            If there is not enough time to make a T-Chart on this day, an alternative is to have students sort pictures under the headings of Physical and Chemical Reactions, get them checked by a teacher, and then place them back into their envelopes.  This alternative method I will try the next time I implement this lesson.
