Lesson Objective

SWBAT revisit the song Big Round Bag by analyzing the first 13 measures of music -notating the beat matrix, pitch name, and fingering, then finding the parts of the song that are similar and notating the rhythm, pitch name, and fingering.

LANGUAGE OBJECTIVE

 

 

SWBAT increase their expressive language skills when describing their experience in music class by using Tier 3 vocabulary words associated with the lesson.

 

 


 

Information (Give and/or demonstrate necessary information)

Students will be given copies of Big Round Bag and will be guided through the first 5 meausres of recorder music (measures 5-9) to reinforce knowledge of pitch, fingering, and how to notate a big matrix.

 
Verification

 Did the students circle the correct beats in measures 5-13


 Did the students label the notes with the correct pitches for measures 9-13

 

 Did the students put the correct fingering above the notes for measures 9-13

 

Did students find the identical measures in the lower staff?

 


 

 
Activity

(Describe the independent activity to reinforce this lesson)

 

The class will be asked to follow the teacher as he  identifies the rhythmic values in measure 5 circles the correct beats for measure 5.  The students will circle the correct beats for measure 5.  The students will then be asked to circle the correct numbers in measures 6-9
 
The class will be asked to follow the teacher as he identifies the notes names for measures 5-9 and goes over strategies to remember note names.  The students will put in the correct note names for measures 10-13.
 
The class will be asked to follow the teacher as he identifies the fingering for measures 5-9.  The students will put in the correct fingering for measure 10-13.
 
Students will be asked to find the parts of the lower staff that are identical to the music on the upper staff and put in the correct markings.
 
At the end of the period  the class will hear the first part of the recording of Big Round Bag and the word ROUND will be introduced and discussed in more detail in the next lesson.
