Open file (Energy efficiency house teacher guide and student worksheets) which includes: materials list, set-up pictures, and student worksheets.
If your periods are shorter than 55-minutes, you must shorten the day 2 activity. Make sure that the room is set-up and ready to go as the students arrive. Additionally, students must finish folding and cutting their model at the end of day one; they will need all of the time to collect data and color their infrared pictures.
The experiments might take longer than 3 days, so plan accordingly. Use this lesson to introduce heat transfer and refer back to it as the rest of your unit progresses, and you begin discussing the specifics of how thermal energy is transferred, etc.
You're kids will LOVE this activity! Don't be afraid of the set-up and materials. Once you have it set up for the class, you're all set.
