Lesson Objective

Students will be able to use descriptive language to describe a character.

Lesson Plan

Direct Teaching
(I)            will begin reading aloud Mr. George Baker by Amy Hest and charting examples of descriptive phrases used to describe Mr. George Baker for the first 4–6 pages. (Example Chart is provided.)
 
Guided Practice
(We)        will finish reading Mr. George Baker and charting more examples of descriptive words used to describe Mr. George Baker. (Example Chart is provided.) We will discuss why the author used these words and how these descriptive words and phrases provide better descriptions than overused words such as “nice,” “pretty,” or “bad”. We will identify other words the author could have used to describe Mr. George Baker.
 
Independent Practice
(You)       will write a description of the little boy in Mr. George Baker using your own creative, descriptive phrases.
