Lesson Objective

Be able to write the beat matrix, identify the pitch letters, and determine which hand to use for a 4 beat mystery melody that uses only pitches G-E LANGUAGE OBJECTIVE-SWBAT will correctly use Tier 3 vocabulary to explain techniques for decoding pitch on the treble staff.

To make correct markings on the sheet music which show an understanding of the rhythm, pitch, and technique that is to be used when reading the music


Identify the "Mystery Melody"

Review of how to write a beat matrix

Review of recognizing pitches G-E on the treble staff

Did students correctly write and circle  the beat matrix?

Did the students label the notes with the correct pitch name?

Did the students indicate the different hand patterns for the different notes

  Students will be given a melody without the title of a well known holiday tune.  Students will identify the rhythms and pitches used in the melody using techniques taught in class..


Try to guess the tune.
