1) Who can remind the class what a text to self connection is? ( A text-to-self connection is when we make a connection between the text and something in our own lives.

2) Students go over the AIMS and AGENDA for the class (on the board) 30 seconds to 1 minute

• Scholars yesterday we read the story The Ugly Pumpkin. Who can remind the class what this story was about? (SW raise hands to provide answer: The Ugly Pumpkin was about a pumpkin who felt ugly, no one liked him, no one wanted to take him home etc. He realizes he’s really a squash and finally finds a family/friends etc.)
• Yesterday we worked on finding the problem and the solution. Today we will spend time making text-to-self connections.
• Remember, a text-to-self connection is when we make a connection between something that happens in the story and something that has happened in our life.)
• TW model making a text-to-self connection with the way the ugly pumpkin felt.

Lesson Reflection

What went well?

Scholars were successful because they had spent time making T2S connections. They were familiar with it and this character. Sophie has an easily relatable feeling.  

What would you change?

Make sure scholars are making deep connections, not just superficial ones. Make sure to model a great T2S so scholars will understand what is expected of them. 

What needs explanation?

Remind scholars that in order to make a great T2S connection they need to connect to the character feeling/experience.
