Lesson: If I see... my brain is thinking...
Objective: Students will be able to preview a text to predict what my passage is going to be about and get my brain ready and prepared for the topic I will be reading.
Direct Instruction: When we see a test question we need to really be thinking how is this going to get my brain ready to be thinking about what I have to answer. When we see a question we can get our brains ready and prepared for the topic by understanding what the question is directing our thinking.
Guided Practice: Teacher will guide students through going through different types of question stems and help them direct their thinking as to what the question is really asking the students to understand as they are taking the test, for example if the question says, what could be another title for this question, it is asking you to find the main idea. Having the ability to understand what questions are asking us to directly find then helps students focus their thinking when they are reading.
Create a table to fill out with the students to help them understand what you do when you see…. What you will do. See resource attached to lesson.
Independent Practice: Students go through tests and try and find different stems.
Complete the organizer based on different test questions and different question stems.
