Lesson: Main Idea with 3 New Titles
Objective: Students will be able to find a main idea and then support with details and evidence from the story. They will read an article. Write what it is mostly about and then identify 3 different titles it can be.
Connection: Did you ever try and say something and then someone else said it a different way and you understood it right away? How many times do we take a test or read a question and say, if I only heard it a different way I would have understood it better. Today we are going to look at how we can write a title 3 different ways to help identify the main idea and then figure out what the story is mostly about.
Teach/Model: Read a passage with the students and blow up the graphic organizer they will be using. Help them identify how they will write what it is mostly about, then the evidence where they support the main idea, and then three new titles that they can write for that article. Talk about how important it is to have a good title and focus on that to get a good idea for your main idea.
Independent Practice: Students will fill out the same chart using a main idea passage.
