Lesson Objective

Objective: Students will be able to create a word wall that they can take with them to use as a resource in writing and homework.

Lesson Plan

Objective:  Students will be able to create a word wall that they can take with them to use as a resource in writing and homework.

 

Do-Now:  walk around the room and have your classmates sign there name on the line that the letter of their first name starts with have them add their name to the list. 

Connection:  It is important for us to use our word walls.  When we use our word walls we ensure that we are spelling and using the words that we use frequently as much as we can.  What a better way then to have a wall you can take on your own.

 

Model:  model to students how they can add words to their word wall.  Writing each word. 

Activities:  students can alphabetize their words on their word wall

Use a word as many times as they can on the wall

Clap out the syllables

Popcorn spell the words

Add prefixes and suffixes to words to create new words

Create as many words as they can using those letters in that word

Write the words in a sentence

Pyramid your spellings

*differentiate by having students create note cards based on sight words

Students can write their sight words 3 times each.

 

Students will create these word walls and use them as a resource.  You can have them add it to their writer's notebooks or writer's folders so they can reference these when they are spelling words.

I have included the dolce sight word list in the resources to get you started with your word walls.

 

You can also use these word walls to create words for character traits or vocabulary words that you are teaching in your every day lessons and readings.
