Lesson: Using your keen observation skills to infer
Students watch Flipped video on inferences for HW
Next: Review inferences as a class
Group activity: Assign group roles and have students analyze each picture. They should record their observations on one side and inferences on another side of the table. Stress the importance of making accurate and objective observations first and then developing explanations (infer) after. Important: Make sure that their observations match their inferences. They must support what they are saying with evidence.
Give each group about 5-10 minutes, depending on class, to work on each picture. Have groups pass picture around. Alternatively, you can show the pictures on a tablet device and have kids get up and move to next group.
Review each picture with the class, students share their responses.
HW: Record 5 observations about a phenomenon at home and then come up with logical inference(s).
