Lesson Objective
students will be able to:
• correctly define and spell vocabulary
• know and use their vocabulary words correctly in a creative story
• use cooperative learning and teamwork effectively to answer questions
Lesson Plan
Do Now
Students are given a vocabulary list with definitions. Students must choose 4 and identify where they were used in the novel.
Introduction
Today we are going to take a pause from reading to analyze the vocabulary in the novel so that our comprehension of the story increases.
Direct Instruction
Students will be divided into 2 teams. Each team will assign a spokesperson to answer all questions when called upon. The game will be played like regular Jeopardy. I will call out the word and the students must ask the question (definition) of the word. After time has been called, whoever has the most points wins.
Guided & Indpendent Practice
Students will use 10 to 20 vocabulary words that they've been exposed to in the Pigman to write thier own scene. Students may work in groups or indpendently. Students should be given time to act out the scene.
Closing:
Why is it so important to understand the context in which words are used in a text?
