Lesson Objective

Students will be able to engage in a variety of drum circle activities that demonstrates respect for instruments and a sensitivity for playing with others.

LANGUAGE OBJECTIVE

Students will be able to use full sentences when asking to trade an instrument, using correct Tier III vocabulary.

ACTIVITY A-

1)Class will sit in a circle and each student will get a chance to pick a simple instrument (shaker, scratcher, or tapper).  The last instrument chosen is the leader instrument is assigned by my following the student who has it .  After a short playing session led by myself and - I explain the rules of the game of Yankee Trader.  Everyone has 1 chance to trade an instrument, but each instrument can only be traded 3x's before it becomes locked - and that person gets to play it when we start the music. 

ACTIVITY B-

2)Drum circle starts playing again with new rule - when I say PASS the students pass the instruments to the left. 

ACTIVITY C-

 3)Using Itunes samples, I find requests from various students for their favorite pop songs  and we play with our instrument to those samples.
