Lesson Objective

Students will be able to use new resources provided by the Donor's Choose grant and then write thank you letters stating their appreciation and how and why they use the equipment.

LANGUAGE OBJECTIVE

 

SWBAT increase their ability to write down their experiences in a clear coherent manner using a Thank You letter template.

 

Information (Give and/or demonstrate necessary information)

Rules for use of the equipment received from Donor's Choose and how it is integrated into the music classroom to increase learning
(i.e.) Using Boomwhackers starting with 1 student, and adding students as the task continues, to gain an understanding of Meter and Rhythm - ala STOMP
 

 

 

Verification (Steps to check for student understanding)

Were the students able to complete the Thank You Template

Were the students able to play use the equipment according to the instructions given?

Activity (Describe the independent activity to reinforce this lesson)

In this case Boomwhackers

1-A student chooses a Boomwhacker and is asked to count to 1 evenly as the the boomwhackers is tapped gently with a click stick.

2-Another student is added playing with a different boomwhacker and this time it goes to a count of 2, with the first student playing on 1, and the second student playing on 2

3-Repeat of step 2 till the count of 8 (the # of pitches of a Major scale)

 4-One student is picked to conduct the other students to the count of 8 - creating a pattern of pitches over an 8 beat count.

 5- Different students are chosen til everyone in the class participates, either as a conductor or player.

 

 6-Thank you note templates are handed out and students fill out their forms - using the overhead as a model

 7-Students are given the opportunity to share their thank you notes with the class.
