Do Now:

Describe a big decision that you have made in your life.

Introduction:
(Teacher Says)
Today we will continue reading Ties That Bind, Ties That Break.  Some really important things have happened to Ailin.  Let's discuss those events

Direct Instruction:
Have students read in groups or independently while teacher pulls a small group of students.

Guided Practice

After reading chapter 7, the teacher will lead a class discussion based on the questions that will stimulate interesting and educational conversation about the book.

 

  • What 3 choices does Big Uncle give Ailin in regards to her future?   How does she react and what does she decide to do and why?
  • Whom does Ailin seek out to help her?   What option is presented to her?
  • How does Ailin perceive the Warners and their home?   How do they differ from her family and home?
  • How does Ailin rationalize lying about her age?

Independent Practice
Students will work independently and

draw a comic strip of this chapter.   Students should make sure that they include dialogue bubbles for the characters.
