Lesson Objective

SWBAT recite the definition of rhythm, recognize rhythms that use quarter notes half notes, whole notes and DOTTED HALF NOTES and play those rhythms correctly while counting the beat out loud. Language Objective- SWBAT increase their expressive language skills by using details when describing the difference between different types of notes in the classroom using Tier 3 vocabulary that is used in the class.

Review the definition of rhythm

Review how to read a beat matrix

Review what a quarter note , half note, and whole note for look and sound like with notation and beat matrix.

Introduce a DOTTED HALF NOTE and how to play it.

Are students counting the beat to different songs being played

Are students able to clap/play different rhythms that include half notes, quarter notes and whole notes  when shown which beats to play on

4-8 Students will hold the BEAT FROGS

If a  student has a quarter note frog frog turned backwards  the rest of the class does not play on that beat

If a student has a frog  turned forwards, students will clap/play instruments on that beat

If a students has half note  frogs, the students count two numbers and play on the first number

If a student has a whole note frog, the students count 4 numbers and play on the first number

 

If a students has a dotted whole note frog, the student count 3 numbers and play on the first number.

Rhythms used in beat frog game will be shown on the board using a beat matrix
