Students will need some background knowledge of biomes before we can begin to discuss organisms that survive well, or not well, in those environments. This lesson will build motivation and provide an opportunity to build background schema.
After reviewing the five types, students will select the NF structure that is most appropriate for their topic, explain why this is the best choice, and begin to identify the best text features to include with their projects.
This session will engage students in compiling information, observations, and investigation data about life cycles, structures and functions, and care of living animals, in order to present to our first graders. This is a performance assessment.
There is no greater way to know if a student understands a concept than to ask them to write the questions. In this lesson, children will review, organize, create, and communicate by creating a learning board game for others to play.
