Big Idea:What are the steps in the engineering design process? What activities do engineers actually complete during those steps? Students learn the steps and then apply their new knowledge in their first design challenge.
Big Idea:In this lesson, students will learn about the Roller Coaster Engineering Challenge, such as the constraints and criteria for success. Students will also begin building supports for their marble roller coaster model.
Big Idea:In this lesson, students will learn how to construct funnels and half-pipes. Then, students will experiment with different ways to successfully attach their tracks, funnels, and half-pipes in their roller coaster prototypes.
Big Idea:In this lesson, students continue working on their roller coaster support systems. Also, I introduce a variety of paper roller coaster components so that students can construct a design of their roller coaster on paper.
Big Idea:Students demonstrate their knowledge of standards in two ways, by completing a written test consisting of multiple choice and extended response, and by earning 50 points from choice board projects.
