I have been a classroom science teacher for over twenty years and my teaching philosophy is summed up best by Mark van Doren when he said that “The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.” I can’t believe how lucky I am to work with students every day! In addition to teaching biology and chemistry, I also teach Latin dance and have served as our district GATE coordinator. I work with a local non-profit that brings environmental education to our students through a community garden and international service trips to Nicaragua and Ecuador and I have served on our school CCSS implementation team. I am currently using integrated learning strategies to investigate science through the arts and have spent the past four summers doing research at Stanford University and University of California, Berkeley. I also hold a five year Math for America Master Teacher fellowship funded by the NSF and housed on the UCB campus and most recently I was selected as part of the state Instructional Leadership Corps of teachers developing CCSS and NGSS professional development seminars. I am excited to be a part of the Better Lesson team, learning together with teachers and students across the country. I am a happy newlywed and stepmother to an amazing five year old, a former dancer and musician, and an avid reader and learner. Here’s to a great year together!
