Big Idea:Sometimes you run into parts of your day where you can not get through large amounts of reading. In this lesson my students read pieces of their history book and then teach the class the important parts from their reading.
Big Idea:Using a the Jigsaw method of group work is a fun way to work with a harder informational text. It allows students to determine the which facts they feel are important and are needed to understand the subject.
Big Idea:With our Columbus biography students will learn a new way to annotate information that they can visualize to help with comprehension. We will use sticky notes to track when we visualize and use those visualizations in our discussions later.
Big Idea:Reading a recipe is a skill and often students do not realize that recipe can come in many shapes and forms. They must read them CLOSELY to makes sure they get the outcome they are looking for.
Big Idea:Connecting various texts together to help with comprehension can be tricky. Students will take an interesting story that will be easy to form connections to many things we have learned already; like Martin Luther King Jr.
