"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them" (Thoreau, 1845).
I am five years into my teaching career at Dansville High School, where I have had the pleasure of working with freshmen through seniors in [required] American Literature, Publications, Drama as Literature One and Two, Shakespeare, World Literature, English Explorations, Poetry, and British Literature.
One of the joys of teaching in a small school is the ability to create my own curriculum. For each of the classes above, I have "built castles" and placed "foundations" based on big ideas, proven teaching strategies, and the Common Core State Standards. Sharing my work and watching my students thrive is a truly rewarding experience.
