I grew up in Irvine, California, and attended a number of gifted and talented/academically accelerated programs throughout my K-12 education. As a student at the University of California, Davis, I saw a stark contrast between my peersâ schooling experiences and my own, which made me realize who I wanted to teach and why. The high quality public education I received showed me what could be a reality for many students who experience educational inequity.
I chose to teach at my school because the students here have great needs and because I believe I can make a positive impact through my work with other teachers, the administration, and my students. One of the best parts of working with others who are passionate about teaching and learning is seeing how teachers can collaborate as professionals who continue grow and sharpen their skill sets.
