Meet the Master Teacher
About Tom
My name is Tom Chandler. I teach Geometry, Response to Intervention Geometry, Algebra II and Statistics at Highland High School in Ault, Colorado. In alternate years, I teach AP Statistics. This is my seventh year teaching math at Highland. Teaching is my second career. My first was in the Marine Corps, and I continue to serve in the Marine Corps Reserve. I graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1991 with a B.S. in electrical engineering, and I received my Masters of Education from Colorado State University in 2008. While working toward my educator license, I taught college algebra classes at Colorado State University. Military service taught me the importance of helping young people to develop the initiative, skills, and creative habits of good problem-solvers. When I decided to make teaching my career, I hoped to share my love of problem-solving with my students and to bring my experiences using math to solve practical problems into the classroom. I have never looked back. I am proud to give my best efforts to the students at our school. I live in Fort Collins with my amazing wife Lisa and our daughters Lila and Rory. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, running, camping, and working on home-improvement projects. This year, I am glad to volunteer my time as an assistant coach with the Highland High School Cross Country Team.
