I believe that well-presented mathematics is intrinsically motivating, and that the job of a teacher is to find the problem solving tasks that a class will find irresistible. Sometimes problems are applied to a real-world context, and other times they may be purely mathematical. In either case, my goal is to give my students the opportunities to ask great questions, to have great ideas, to wonder and be confused, and then to experience the thrill of understanding. When Iâm building curriculum, every decision I make is based on what I know about the students I'm currently teaching, and my guiding principle is to produce a coherent narrative that moves the class from one irresistible idea to another. I have been teaching at public high schools in the Bronx, NY and Worcester, MA for the past ten years.
