Overview: 

Labster is a platform that provides interactive virtual lab simulations for high school and higher ed science students. This platform allows students to engage in real-life scenarios via the online simulation to better grasp rigorous academic content through the investigation, experimentation, and assessment of student understanding. By providing access to virtual lab equipment and virtual materials that may not always be readily available in the educational setting, Labster promotes engaging science inquiry in any learning environment.  Labster’s platform allows students and educators to sidestep constraints like time and safety, by allowing students to work at their own pace and safely explore MIT-caliber lab techniques, while providing opportunity for all students to experience science-focused, virtual simulations.

BetterLesson shares Labster’s belief that engaging, authentic investigative experiences are foundational to developing key skills in a student-centered science classroom. Often, lab experiments in science classes feel compliance-driven where students are following step-by-step procedures. Labster provides a new approach to standard lab experiments by grounding concepts in real-life scenarios, allowing for students to work independently at a pace that supports their understanding, and providing opportunity for ongoing assessment and targeted feedback.
