Big Idea:Students will need some background knowledge of biomes before we can begin to discuss organisms that survive well, or not well, in those environments. This lesson will build motivation and provide an opportunity to build background schema.
Big Idea:Students are given a reason for learning about the biomes and their organisms. By the end of the lesson sequence, they will create a mythical animal or plant that could survive in all 6 biomes!
Big Idea:This session will engage students in compiling information, observations, and investigation data about life cycles, structures and functions, and care of living animals, in order to present to our first graders. This is a performance assessment.
Big Idea:It is critical for students to "remember" that their observations serve them well and lead to questions and problems that can be investigated in a scientific way. This lesson provides the space and interest to explore and question.
