Big Idea:Street Music is a poem that is a part of the book, Love that Dog by Sharon Creech. It is an example of how onomatopoeia can be used to describe a street. Students will write their own poem using their street.
Big Idea:In the book, Love That Dog by Sharon Creech, our character read a poem that is very short and is free verse. This lesson opens up our unit on poetry by connecting to the character and trying to create our own similar poem.
Big Idea:As we study Ancient Greece and poetry, students are introduced to a lyric poem. My students thought this referred to a limerick and this is to help them distinguish the two and write an example of a lyric poem for their Greece unit.
Big Idea:Food is a good motivator in lessons. In this lesson students will play with spaghetti to determine all the ways it can be described. They will then use this same approach to write their own poem.
